Before proceeding, let us know in detail what these exams are.
GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE):
GATE is one of the highly specialized and reputed exams. It takes place once a year in the month of February (normally). It is organized by the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru and seven Indian Institutes of Technology. GATE applicants are mostly engineering and science graduates and postgraduates. One of the reasons for the large number of applicants on the GATE test is that they are not graduates and graduate seniors are also eligible to apply. This exam is a pathway to higher education, public sector jobs, and youth research scholarships. Applicants seeking admission to leading institutes in India require a valid GATE score. Admissions are requested in Master's or Doctorate courses at these institutes. Additionally, various PSU vacancies are filled through the GATE score.
INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES (IES):
Indian Engineering Services or IES are civil services. The Union Public Utilities Commission (UPSC) conducts this examination. The IES exam is known as the Engineering Services Exam (ESE). People who are selected through the IES exam are responsible for the techno-managerial affairs of the Government of India. These people are known as civil servants. They are selected based on the merit list of the IES / ESE exam.
CAREER OPTIONS AFTER GATE:
A VALID GATE score can bring a candidate brilliant opportunities in many fields like academic, job, research, etc.
Let’s explore these Career options one by one.
Higher Education after GATE:
One of the reasons people go to GATE is to pursue higher education. A good and valid GATE score can earn an applicant admission to a graduate or doctoral program at a reputable engineering institute. If one ranks high in all of India, then the student could easily be admitted to an IISc, IIT or NIT. The best engineering institutes generally accept applicants with ranks up to 1400. Other private and government engineering institutions generally accept ranks up to 2400 or more. Getting admission to a reputable institution can open up great prospects in terms of job and package.
Job after GATE:
CAMPUS Placements: Obtain admission to top engineering institutes like IISC, IIT, NIT, PEC, DCE, etc. increases the likelihood that the applicant will get a high-paying job in a multinational company. Companies like Google, L&T, Tata, Maruti, Cisco, and several other select engineering candidates with a master's degree from these renowned institutions.
PSU through GATE: PSUs like BHEL, ONGC, WBSEDCL, HPCL, MDL, IOCL, BPCL, NTPC, DDA, Power Grid, etc. fill vacancies through GATE score.
The GATE cap for UPMs is very high and therefore one must score extremely well to be considered for these UPM openings. So PSU through GATE is a great idea for aspirants who want to achieve great achievements in life.
CSIR Youth Research Grants - The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India, a premier national R&D organization, is among the largest publicly funded R&D organizations in the world. Each year CSIR hosts many young researchers through GATE. An interview will be held prior to final admission. But to be eligible for the interview, the applicant must possess a good and valid GATE score. The number of intakes depends on the number of research projects available. Junior researchers work on live projects and receive a monthly stipend.
Jobs in the private sector - Many of the private companies are more focused on research and development these days. Therefore, they give more preference to students with a graduate degree and a valid GATE score. Some private companies also recruit through GATE scores. In short, taking the GATE test seriously provides you with immense opportunities.
Foreign Companies and Institutes - Many foreign companies these days give additional credit to Indian candidates who have a valid GATE score. Also, many overseas universities require a valid GATE score from Indian candidates to accept assignments to specialized graduate programs. Therefore, a high GATE score can give an applicant a significant advantage over their competitors when applying to foreign companies and universities.
Teaching Work: To get a job as a teacher or professor, a Postgraduate degree is mandatory these days. Many people who want a career in the teaching industry apply for GATE. They do a graduate program from a reputable institute. Therefore, an applicant who wants to start his career as a teacher must apply to GATE and complete a Postgraduate or Ph.D. from a reputable institute.
