What is GATE?
GATE- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an exam to be taken for Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Institutes Indian Information Technology (IIIT) and other Indian Institutes / Universities. It also opens the door to booming public sector organizations (UPM) and in the field of research. Some of the PSUs and research organizations that use the GATE score to provide jobs include ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, HPCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BSNL, HPCL, NHPC, BARC, DRDO, etc.
GATE is an all-India exam administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee made up of faculty members from IISc, Bangalore and seven other IITs on behalf of the National Coordinating Board, Department of Education, Ministry Human Resource Development.
GATE 2021 Examination will be organized by IIT, Bombay and the exam will be conducted on February 5-7 and February 12-14.
GATE 2021: What’s New
- Two new subjects: Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Sciences (XH). The total number of subjects in GATE 2021 has increased to 27.
- In another recently introduced change, students applying for GATE 2021 can also opt for two subject assignments from the prescribed set of combinations.
- The eligibility criteria for presenting to GATE-2021 are relaxed from the minimum 10 + 2 + 4 (ongoing) to the minimum of 10 + 2 + 3 (ongoing), allowing even those in the third year of their studies to undergraduate students sit for the exam, thus providing an additional opportunity for candidates to improve their performance to ensure better career options.
- All GATE 2021 test items will be fully objective. The question pattern may include (i) multiple-choice questions (MCQ), (ii) multiple-choice questions (MSQ), and / or (iii) numerical response type questions (NAT).
